Hey Kharmika, why real estate?
Deciding to work in real estate was not a hard choice for me. I witnessed how divided our nation was during the election cycle and after. It became apparent to me that much derision had to do with the feeling of being left behind. At the time, I was representing our nation abroad working for the federal government. My job focused mainly on creating connections between the host nation and the United States government. I very much enjoyed serving my country in this way, but I couldn't help but think how I could better serve my community on a local level while still creating and building sustainable relationships with people and uniting them around a common cause and also living in a city I love--Durham.
That cause for me is economic development and wealth creation. We live in a time where the world's richest 1% grabbed 82% of all wealth created in 2017. It's no wonder many feel forgotten and unimportant. Although our lives are short and many of us may never find our way into the 1%, I think it's important that we feel connected to our communities, improve our quality of life, and have the ability to improve life for those that come after us. For those of us that did not inherit wealth, homeownership and entrepreneurship are the only ways to create wealth. I'm passionate about homeownership as an economic driver. I would like to help others achieve this goal.
